IPIL, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY - Zamboanga Sibugay Governor Wilter Palma has ordered Monday all teachers and students in the province to wear protective clothing instead of school uniforms as protection against dengue.

– Zamboanga Sibugay Governor Wilter Palma has ordered Monday all teachers and students in the province to wear protective clothing instead of school uniforms as protection against dengue. The governor required the mandatory wearing of “long pants, long sleeves, leggings, and long socks during regular school days and during other school-sponsored activities.” He suspended the wearing of school uniforms in the meantime.

In signing Executive Order 1011-07-29-19-011, Palma noted the death casualties due to the dengue outbreak among students and children. Citing the high number of cases of dengue, the governor said there is “a need to undertake measures to preserve life.” The Integrated Provincial Health Office has documented at least 3,566 dengue cases from January to July 29 this year. This is more than two thousand-fold increase during the same period of last year.On July 22, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan placed the entire province under a state of calamity due to dengue.

Under a state of calamity, the provincial government can utilize the quick response fund to address the public health problem.
