The Grammy Award-winning singer made the request before performing a song believed to be written about singer John Mayer at her recent Minneapolis concert.

On Saturday , singer-songwriter Taylor Swift called on fans to exercise"kindness" and"gentleness" in the lead-up to the release of Speak Now – a re-recording of her 2010 album – which is scheduled for Jul 7.

Addressing the attendees of her concert at Minneapolis’ US Bank Stadium, Swift said:"I was hoping to ask you that as we lead up to this album coming out, I would love for that kindness and that gentleness to extend onto our Internet activities." She added:"I’m 33 years old, I don’t care about anything that happened to me when I was 19 except the songs I wrote. feel the need to defend me on the Internet against someone you think I might have written a song about 14 billion years ago."

Swift's speech came before her performance of Dear John – a song many believe to be about her former boyfriend, singer John Mayer. As videos of Swift's speech became viral, fans have come out to support her and urged others to respect her wishes. As one of her fans put it:"She's not defending him, she's defending herself."
