SUPER typhoon 'Mawar' entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Saturday and is now locally called 'Betty,' the state weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration said in its 5 a.m. forecast that Betty entered PAR at 2 a.m. slightly weaker, packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour from its peak of 215 kph and with gustiness of P240kph. It is moving faster at 25kph west-northwestward toward extreme Northern Luzon in the areas of Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
Most parts of Cagayan Valley, the northern portion of Aurora, northern and eastern portions of the Cordillera region, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte would experience heavy rainfall and strong winds as super typhoon Betty draws nearer to Northern Luzon.Estareja said by Monday and Tuesday, Betty is expected to slow down 'slightly' which will be 'crucial' because 'the effects of rains and winds will last longer on the northern part of Luzon.
