When HSC student Ahmad Altaq walked out of his Advanced Mathematics exam on Thursday afternoon, the first thing he said to his friends was “man, that was hard”.

The students at Strathfield South were among 59,000 others across NSW who were sitting their Mathematics Advanced, Standard 1, Standard 2 and Extension Maths exams on Thursday. Nek, a self-confessed maths lover, said he felt confident about the exam, had studied hard, and walked out of the hall feeling good about what he had put down on paper.
