BACOLOD CITY — Negros Occidental was placed under a state of calamity after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (City Council) approved the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in a special session on Friday.
BACOLOD CITY — Negros Occidental was placed under a state of calamity after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in a special session on Friday.The resolution recommends the release of the calamity fund of the province, a price freeze on basic necessities and prime commodities, programming/ reprogramming of funds, utilization of the quick response fund and the use of alternative modes of procurement.
It also said that the eruption affected the local governments of La Castellana, La Carlota, Pontevedra, the southeast portion of Bago City and the towns of Valladolid, San Enrique, Hinigaran and Binalbagan.The eruption also affected 33,806 individuals within the six kilometer permanent danger zone.The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology , meanwhile, warned of a possibility of hazardous eruption of Kanlaon in the coming weeks even as Alert Level 3 remains in effect.
