BACOLOD CITY – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has issued a resolution recommending that the entire province of Negros Occidental be placed under a state of calamity due to explosive eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, PDRRMC chairperson, presided over an emergency meeting at the Social Hall of the provincial capitol here on Thursday, Dec. 12, to discuss local disaster response on the eruption.
He said that many local government units have been asking about the declaration as they would like to help Kanlaon-affected LGUs. The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has been asked to immediately convene to pass a resolution adopting the PDRRMC resolution and release the calamity fund to extend immediate assistance to those affected by the Kanlaon eruption and aid the rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts of the provincial government.
