MANILA, Philippines: San Miguel Beer showed no signs of rust after the long break, smashing Phoenix, 116-102 for its third straight win to stay unbeaten in the Season 48 PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
All-Star wingman CJ Perez pumped in 32 points, a conference-high for SMB's reliable go-to-guy as the Beermen sustained their strong start in the all-Filipino conference.The Fuel Masters trailed by just four at halftime, but failed to sustain their defensive intensity in the second half.
The wards of coach Jamike Jarin fell by as many as 18 points, but managed to narrow the gap at 104-96, before eventually allowing the Beermen to seize control.Phoenix dropped its second straight game and fell to 1-4 overall.Jericho Cruz led San Miguel's balanced attack with 17 markers, Terrence Romeo had 16, while seven-time league Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo recorded a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.
