Six individuals claiming to have ties to Malacanang were arrested by the NBI for allegedly selling positions in the BARMM parliament for P8 million each. Governor Esmael Mangudadatu reported the group, who promised VIP treatment and facilitated appointments through the First Lady.
Six individuals claiming to have connections to Malacanang were arrested in an entrapment operation by the National Bureau of Investigation ( NBI ) for allegedly selling positions in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao ( BARMM ) for P8 million each. According to a report by John Consulta on GMA News '24 Oras' on Friday, Maguindanao Governor Esmael Mangudadatu reported the group to the NBI , who were offering positions in the BARMM parliament for P8 million each.
'He said he would be the one to administer the oath, that we would go to Malacanang, and bring the money, today. He said, 'They're good, because he said that when we get there, we'll have VIP rooms, and they'll talk to each of us one by one,' said Mangudadatu about one of the suspects. According to the NBI, the two supposed positions were for Mangudadatu's child and nephew. But instead of P16 million for the two positions, the group allegedly offered a discount and only asked for P15 million. 'P8 million per position but because there are two, there's a discount, P15 million only. They said the one who would facilitate the appointment of the child and nephew is the First Lady. When we checked the Palace, they were not known there. We have a certification that they are not connected in any way to the Palace,' said NBI Director Jaime Santiago. The entrapment operation was conducted at a hotel in Manila, and the group was arrested after accepting the marked money. According to the NBI, it appears that some of those arrested have criminal records, and it is possible that they have contacted other people to victimize them as well. 'The agents already took possession of the mobile gadgets and this will be subjected to forensic investigation,' said NBI spokesperson Ferdinand Lavin. One of the arrested individuals was found to be a candidate for councilor in Parañaque City. He admitted that he planned to use the money they made for his campaign. 'I was able to contact a friend in Davao...'
