Senator Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa urges the Philippine National Police to take a more active role in enforcing traffic regulations along the Marilaque Highway to prevent future accidents.
Senator Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa emphasized the urgent need to implement a lasting solution to curb road accidents along the Marilaque (Marikina-Rizal-Laguna-Quezon) Highway. He stressed the importance of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) taking a more proactive role in enforcing traffic regulations along the entire stretch of the highway, with the support of local police and local government units (LGUs).
Dela Rosa raised the issue during the Senate Public Order and Dangerous Drugs hearing on February 3rd, bringing it to the attention of Highway Patrol Group Director PBGen. Eleazar Mata. He pointed to the alarming frequency of accidents on the Marilaque Highway and the public's growing concern over the perceived lack of effective law enforcement in the area. His remarks followed a recent incident where a motorcycle rider lost their life and spectators were injured in an accident along the highway in Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay. The former PNP chief urged the government to seek the expertise of road safety and traffic specialists in developing a comprehensive strategy to discourage riders from using the highway as a speed track. He emphasized that the primary objective was to restore order and prevent future accidents, regardless of the riders' motives. Dela Rosa also stressed the need for the HPG to closely monitor reckless riders engaging in dangerous activities along the highway
