THE Securities and Exchange Commission wants to expand the Government Securities Repurchase Agreement Market to include participants other than eligible dealers.The move, it said, will further deepen the country's capital market.'The repo market is envisioned to support the market-making activities of government securities dealers in the country,' SEC Chairman Emilio Aquino said.

'The regulator pointed out that last year, it had supported a call by industry groups for the expansion of the documentary stamp tax exemption for all derivative market players.This led to the issuance of Revenue Memorandum Circular 125-2024, which amended rules governing the tax treatment of GS repo transactions under the Global Master Repurchase Agreement.
