An open house was held recently as Scotia Recycling Limited celebrated its $8-million investment in the Kentville Material Recovery Facility’s modernization. They are in front of a bale of mixed paper produced in a matter of minutes.
“This modernization initiative grows Scotia Recycling’s capacity and brings efficiencies to the company’s recycling and waste management capability,” CEO Norm Mensour said in a news release. “Installing new and innovative equipment enables the team to produce more recycled materials at a higher end-quality, and the equipment will make this job easier. By upgrading to become better recyclers, this ensures less materials end up in landfills.
The Kentville facility is the region’s largest and most modern one. It now processes close to 10 tons of blue bag recyclables per hour. Over the long term, the company’s goal is to increase its customer base and with that, add more employees to its team. “We are grateful to our employees, customers and the Scotia family of companies and family member investors who have been on this journey with us and will be part of our exciting future,” said Randy MacMillan, president and CEO of Scotia Investments Limited.
