Eventually, it was time to go forward with gender affirming surgery to fight some of the pain. This finally happened in July 2022, Preston said in a Nov. 3 SaltWire interview. “If somebody had a cleft palate, right — something about their body that causes some sort of issue for them — then if we can, medically, we try to fix it.”First, bottom surgery is a major procedure that takes a full-time schedule of recovery, with about three months off from work. While Preston was able to return to PEERS early because her work is related to the procedure, the first few months still required near constant aftercare to prevent complications, she said.
Another issue is that, though bottom surgery is covered for everyone, only people who are assigned female at birth have coverage for top surgery. So, breast implants are not covered, but breast removal and chest masculinization are, said Preston, who noted she has not had top surgery.During her time in Montreal, Preston noticed she was the only trans woman getting regular visits from friends or family.
Anastasia was upset, Charlotte said, in a Nov. 13 SaltWire interview. But the flight issue wasn't going to stop Charlotte – not after seeing how joyous the prospect of finally having surgery had made her daughter.
