SAN MANUEL, Pangasinan — The San Roque Dam here has stopped releasing water on Monday, as the skies cleared in Pangasinan province following the exit of Super Typhoon Pepito to the West Philippine Sea.
Maria Teresa Serra, head of the National Power Corporation's Flood Forecasting and Warning System Division, said that one of the dam's spillway gates, which was opened on Sunday, was closed at 11 a.m. on Monday.The San Roque hydroelectric power plant has also shifted back to its 'peaking plant' mode at 12 p.m. Monday from its 'must-run' mode since Sunday, in anticipation of the rains that may be dumped by Typhoon Pepito as it crossed Central and Luzon provinces that day.
As a peaking plant, the power plant will again produce electricity only during peak hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., instead of 24 hours a day in must-run mode.Serra said that as of 12 p.m. Monday, seven of the eight spillway gates of the Ambuklao Dam upstream of the Agno River in Bokod, Benguet were still open at 0.5 meter each, spilling water at the rate of 448.88 cubic meters per second .In addition, its turbine is releasing water at 13.
