TRADE Secretary Cristina Roque has urged fast fashion online retailer Shein to expand its presence in the Philippines by establishing manufacturing operations in the country.
Roque , who met with Shein executives on Thursday at the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, said: 'Opening a manufacturing facility in the Philippines would create numerous jobs for Filipinos, given Shein 's significant presence both locally and globally.
Filipino designers will have a global platform to showcase their work, she said, which could drive the growth of the Philippine fashion industry. It will also empower small and medium-sized enterprises and strengthen the e-commerce ecosystem.'I am optimistic about the opportunities this partnership will create for our designers and entrepreneurs,' Roque said.Shein, which was founded in 2008 in China, saw its business boom during the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly among young buyers.
