Queensland's Opposition Leader has demanded Annastacia Palaszczuk return from holidays to address tightening bail laws for youths, as a petition calling for 'Emma's Law' to be introduced gains traction following the murder of a mother-of-two in Brisbane.

The 41-year-old mother-of-two and her husband Lee Lovell, 43, were woken in the late hours of Boxing Day by a group of teens who broke into their home in north Brisbane.

Two teenage boys, both aged 17, have since been charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of breaking and entering. He wants to see the Sunshine State's Youth Justice Act rewritten to include making breach of bail an offence for young offenders. "I’ll tell you what Queenslanders are growing tired of… every time the government says we’ve got these tough laws, it’s ashes in the mouths of Queenslanders because they know that’s not the case and they’re living through a crime epidemic at the moment," he told Sky News Australia host Gabriella Power.

It is addressed to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Ms Palaszczuk and asks for"judges to incarcerate and no bail on violent home invaders who repeat offence that use or have weapons regardless of age". More than 20,000 people have signed it so far.
