KOTA KINABALU: Power rationing is being done in Sabah to ensure the electricity grid is stable before it can be restored state-wide, says the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).

"To stabilise the grid frequency for the Sabah grid, the under frequency load shedding mechanism has been activated to avoid the grid system from being totally crippled.

"To ensure grid stability, SESB has to conduct power supply rationing to consumers across the state," said SESB senior general manager Idris Mohd Noor.He added that the power outages in several districts were due to the free energy generator turbine being tripped following a technical issue. "SESB will continue monitoring the situation, and everything is expected to return to normal by tonight," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Consumers can contact the SESB Careline at 15454, 088-515 000 or through Whatsapp at 019-8525427, SESB Careline Facebook and SESB Twitter for enquiries. On a separate matter, Idris said two men attempting to steal cables owned by a telecommunication company were apprehended by SESB auxiliary police on Monday along Jalan Tanjung Lipat here."Following incidents of SESB-owned cables being stolen lately, SESB auxiliary police conducted a special operation.Article type: free
