Defining the News
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III has urged the government again to acknowledge the significant issues surrounding Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations and to promptly adopt a policy prohibiting their operation.
Senator Risa Hontiveros, chair of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality, has been leading the inquiries, particularly focusing on a POGO hub raided by authorities in Bamban, Tarlac, last March. With the way things have been going lately, the senator cited the need to reverse the original policy and ban all kinds of POGO altogether. “Let us not allow it—both legal and illegal ,” Pimentel said in a DWIZ interview.
Pimentel supported Senators Hontiveros and Sherwin Gatchalian on their recommendation to involve the National Security Council in bringing the POGO ban issue to President Marcos, but not to the extent of having it declared as a national security threat.
