The Philippine National Police (PNP) will implement stricter security measures at checkpoints nationwide as the campaign period for national candidates commences on February 11. PNP officials met to strategize checkpoint implementation, aiming to ensure smooth passage for supporters and candidates while maintaining security. The PNP will closely monitor 403 areas of concern, with heightened deployments in high-risk zones categorized as yellow, orange, and red. Operations against private armed groups (PAGs) and loose firearms continue, with a PAG leader in Nueva Ecija surrendering to authorities. The PNP hopes to significantly neutralize remaining active and potential PAGs by March 31.
The Philippine National Police has asked the public for understanding as it would be stricter at checkpoints when the campaign period for national candidates starts on Tuesday, February 11. According to Jun Veneracion’s report on "24 Oras," top officials of the PNP and field commanders met to iron out the implementation of checkpoints.
“Of course, doon sa mga areas na napasailalim sa yellow, orange and red definitely we will increase our deployment, particularly doon sa mga tinatawag natin na mga high-risk areas,” Fajardo said. The campaign against private armed groups and loose firearms continued ahead of the May 12 elections. In Nueva Ecija, a PAG leader in Central Luzon and his men surrendered to the authorities. They did not undergo police custody because there was no warrant of arrest issued to them.
