The Philippine National Police (PNP) is implementing a comprehensive 100-day security plan to ensure the safety and integrity of the 2025 midterm elections. The plan includes deploying additional personnel to areas identified as election hotspots, conducting regular checkpoints, and intensifying intelligence operations.
The Philippine National Police ( PNP ) has intensified its preparations for the 2025 midterm elections, deploying additional personnel in areas identified as election hotspots. Police General Rommel Marbil, the PNP chief, unveiled a 100-day security plan emphasizing personnel deployment in high-risk areas, frequent checkpoints, and heightened intelligence operations.
Marbil emphasized the critical need for vigilance and proactive policing during this period, stating that the plan aims to ensure the safety of every voting center, address any potential threats, and guarantee that all citizens can vote without fear.PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo confirmed the deployment of extra security forces in 'election areas of concern,' a list that currently includes 403 locations as of January 9th. These areas are categorized based on their past election-related incidents and potential for violence. 188 areas fall under the 'yellow' category, which have reported suspected election-related incidents in previous elections, but without involvement of domestic terror groups. Another 177 areas are classified as 'orange,' exhibiting a combination of factors present in 'yellow' areas, alongside serious armed threats from terror and extremist groups. Finally, 38 areas are designated as 'red,' meeting the criteria for 'yellow' and 'orange' categories, posing significant threats from both terror groups and intense political rivalries.Beyond deploying additional personnel, the PNP's 100-day security plan encompasses increased police visibility, strategic personnel allocation, and strengthened collaboration with other law enforcement and intelligence agencies. The organization will prioritize dismantling private armed groups, pursuing wanted individuals, and intensifying efforts to curb loose firearms circulation. Police General Marbil urged the public to report any suspicious activities or election-related violations to the PNP through their designated hotlines and social media channels. The official election period commenced on January 12th, with the campaign period for senatorial candidates and party-list groups scheduled from February 11th to March 10th, 2025. The campaign period for House of Representatives, parliamentary, provincial, city, and municipal elections will run from March 28th to May 10th. Election Day is set for May 12th, while overseas voters can cast their ballots from April 13th to May 12th, and local absentee voters from April 28th to 30th
