The Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Philippine National Police ( PNP ) officially launched nationwide initiatives to secure the 2025 national and local elections. Officers guarding checkpoints set up in Metro Manila cities and other parts of the country on January 12, 2025. \The Philippine National Police ( PNP ) reported that four persons were apprehended early Sunday after the nationwide gun ban took effect amid the election period for the May 2025 polls.

PNP chief Police General Rommel Marbil said some of the firearms that were confiscated from those arrested were pistols and long guns. \Authorities also reported that checkpoints have been implemented as mandated by the Commission on Elections in Quezon City. The Quezon City Police District under Col. Melecio Buslig Jr. ordered the establishment of checkpoints that took effect yesterday at 12:01 a.m. At least 33 checkpoints have been strategically established city-wide to ensure security and compliance with election-related regulations during the election period from Jan. 12 to June 11. To ensure the effective implementation of Comelec’s order, Buslig, along with his command group, conducted inspections at various checkpoint locations, including Elliptical Road corner Kalayaan Avenue, LRT Anonas station, and Welcome Rotonda in Barangay Don Manuel
