Phoenix Fuel Masters finally secured their first win of the PBA Commissioner's Cup, defeating the previously undefeated NorthPort team. Meanwhile, Converge FiberXers held off a late charge from NLEX Road Warriors to claim victory.
The Phoenix Fuel Masters secured their first triumph of the conference with a 115-109 victory against NorthPort on Tuesday in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup. Phoenix import Donovan Smith excelled with 32 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Jason Perkins contributed 24 points as the Fuel Masters ended their losing streak of four consecutive games.
Veteran RJ Jazul also played a crucial role, scoring eight of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, including a three-pointer that extended their lead to eight points, 110-102, with two minutes remaining. NorthPort, now with a 5-1 record, was led by Kadeem Jack's 28 points and 16 rebounds. In another game, the Converge FiberXers defeated the NLEX Road Warriors 102-91. Cheick Diallo spearheaded Converge's victory with a remarkable performance of 37 points and 18 rebounds. Alec Stockton added 16 points, including five during a decisive 9-0 run in the fourth quarter that propelled them to a 93-82 advantage. NLEX attempted a comeback with Baser Amer and Robert Bolick each sinking four-point shots, closing the gap to six points, 96-90. However, Diallo secured the win for Converge by scoring the last six points. Converge improved to 3-2 in the standings, while NLEX dropped to 3-3. Jordan Heading also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists. NLEX import Mike Watkins showcased his strength with 36 points and 23 rebounds, and Bolick finished with 26 points and six assists.
