Pagasa predicts widespread rain in Luzon and Visayas due to a shear line and Northeast Monsoon (Amihan). Residents are warned of possible flooding and landslides. CAAP reports numerous flight cancellations affecting hundreds of passengers due to bad weather.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasts cloudy skies and rains in parts of Luzon and Visayas on Wednesday. A shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms to Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Quezon. Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan will bring cloudy skies with rains to Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon.

Residents in these areas are advised to be vigilant for possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to heavy rains. The amihan will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains to Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, and the rest of CALABARZON. Localized thunderstorms will cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the rest of the country. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) meawhile reported numerous flight cancellations on January 8 due to poor weather conditions. At Virac Airport, two Cebu Pacific (CEB) flights (MNL-VRC-MNL) have been suspended, affecting 311 passengers. Additionally, at Naga Airport, the first two flights of CEB’s sister airline CebGo — DG 6113 and DG 6114 (MNL-WNP-MNL) — were also canceled, impacting 134 passengers. CebGo flights DG 6080 and DG 6081 have also been canceled at Masbate Airport. CAAP information officer Bea Bernardo said aviation personnel are assisting affected passengers with rebooking and refund procedures, as well as baggage claims and security support. She said CAAP remains on standby following these cancellations, which have caused delays and inconveniences for travelers. “We are actively monitoring weather forecasts to ensure we can prepare proactively.” Area managers have been instructed to communicate clearly and promptly with passengers and to provide the necessary assistance to help mitigate disruptions and support affected travelers effectively
