The Sandiganbayan has issued an arrest warrant for former Valladolid mayor Romel Yogore for violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. Yogore was convicted in 2019 for the procurement of construction materials without public bidding, awarded to his brother-in-law's company.

The Sandiganbayan has issued an arrest warrant for former Valladolid, Negros Occidental mayor Romel Yogore after upholding a 2019 ruling that convicted him of graft. Authorities confirmed the warrant on Wednesday, February 12, 2024, after it first circulated on Facebook. Yogore is facing charges related to the procurement of construction materials worth P230,395 for a rural health unit in 2008 without public bidding .

The supplier, JB Nieve Hardware and Construction Supplies, was owned by his brother-in-law, Jonie Nieve. The case, filed by local radio personality Larry Concepcion in 2010, was investigated by the Ombudsman-Visayas. In 2017, Yogore was found liable and subsequently convicted by the anti-graft court in 2019. The court sentenced him to up to eight years in prison and disqualified him from holding public office. Seven of his co-accused were acquitted, while former municipal engineer Alfonso Manayon pleaded guilty to a lesser offense and was fined P5,000. Yogore appealed the decision to the Sandiganbayan, but the court upheld the ruling in 2019. A subsequent motion for reconsideration was denied. Despite the initial conviction, Yogore remained at large until the Supreme Court denied his appeal against the Sandiganbayan's decision in March 2022. On March 29, 2024, the Supreme Court's resolution became final and executory, paving the way for the issuance of the arrest warrant nearly four years later. As of February 12, 2024, the Valladolid police confirmed that they had tried to serve the warrant at Yogore's residence but were unable to locate him. The Negros Occidental police and other law enforcement agencies have been instructed to apprehend Yogore. Concepcion, the complainant, urged authorities to take swift action against Yogore, stating that he filed the case due to the prevalence of corruption in the area.
