The Philippines confirmed 156 new coronavirus infections, the fewest in a week since April 25. This brings the tally of COVID19 cases in the country to 8,928.
MANILA – The Philippines on Saturday confirmed 156 new coronavirus infections, bringing the tally of cases to 8,928.
The country’s death toll has risen by 24 to 603, the Department of Health said in its latest bulletin. Some 40 more individuals have, meanwhile, recovered from the disease, taking the total recoveries to 1,124, new figures reveal. Worldwide, the novel coronavirus has infected more than 3.3 million people and killed 238,000, a running tally from the US-based Johns Hopkins University showed.
The Philippines has scrapped mass gatherings, closed schools and urged people to work from home in several areas, including Metro Manila and other key cities, to contain the outbreak. It has also relaxed lockdown protocols in other parts of the country.
