After years of delays, the construction of the Taguig City Integrated Terminal Exchange (TCITX) is finally underway. The project, awarded to the Ayala Group in 2015, is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2027.
After nearly a decade of delays, the Philippine government has finally committed to delivering the Taguig City Integrated Terminal Exchange ( TCITX ) by 2027, before the end of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s term. Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista announced that the facility, awarded to the Ayala Group in 2015, is expected to be operational within two years.
Monday marked a significant milestone with the government and private sector jointly breaking ground for the construction of this crucial multimodal terminal. 'We eagerly anticipate its completion and operational launch in the first quarter of 2027,' Bautista stated. The Ayala Group secured the auction for the 35-year Build-Transfer-and-Operate (BTO) Integrated Transport System-South (ITS-South) a decade ago. The P5.2-billion project was initially slated to begin construction a year after the award. However, it faced numerous hurdles, primarily concerning right-of-way issues, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr). Pre-construction activities were also undertaken, but the onset of the pandemic necessitated a scaling back of operations, the DOTr added. The TCITX is envisioned as a transformative multimodal transport hub, designed to optimize passenger movement between Southern Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and Metro Manila. Situated within the Arca South complex in Taguig City, it will function as a central transfer point for buses, the Philippine National Railways (PNR), and the Metro Manila Subway. By seamlessly integrating these different modes of transportation, the TCITX aims to alleviate congestion on major roadways, such as EDSA, and enhance overall mobility within the region
