The Philippine Association of Private Telecommunications Companies (PAPTELCO) has voiced concerns over the Konektadong Pinoy Bill, arguing that it will disadvantage smaller telcos and be detrimental to the Filipino economy. PAPTELCO President Atty. Normandy Baldovino Jr. stated that the bill, which aims to improve internet access by removing legislative franchise requirements and promoting infrastructure sharing, will disproportionately affect smaller players in the industry. He emphasized the vital role these companies play in providing connectivity in underserved areas and warned against allowing unfettered entry of foreign telecoms. Meanwhile, the bill has received support from Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who asserts its benefits in attracting investments and ensuring nationwide access to fast and affordable internet.
Philippine Association of Private Telecommunications Companies raised concerns over the Konektadong Pinoy Bill, saying that small telecommunications companies will be displaced and called it anti-Filipino.
Baldovino furthered that legislators did not consider the negative impact of allowing any foreign telco to set-up in the Philippines. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, author of Senate Bill No. 2699, said that the Konektadong Pinoy bill aims to improve access to fast and affordable internet nationwide by removing the need for legislative franchises, promoting infrastructure sharing among telecom companies, and overseeing the allocation and use of radio spectrums.
