The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) reported a record-breaking number of passengers during the 2024 holiday season, driven by economic improvements, the popularity of sea travel, and the PPA’s “PPAsyal Tayo” campaign.

THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) reported a record-breaking 4.74 million passengers served across its ports nationwide during the holiday season from December 15, 2024, to January 5, 2025. This figure represents an 8.46-percent increase from the 4.37 million passengers recorded during the same period in 2023, making it the highest holiday traffic seen since the pandemic. PPA General Manager Jay Daniel R.

Santiago attributed the surge to various factors, including the improving Philippine economy, which has allowed more Filipinos to travel and reunite with their families during the festive season. Additionally, the popularity of sea travel remains a significant driver of passenger volume, especially during peak travel times like Christmas and New Year, Santiago said. The PPA official noted that the agency’s “PPAsyal Tayo” campaign also played a key role in boosting passenger numbers. The initiative, which aims to improve travel experiences through enhanced passenger services and streamlined port operations, has been widely embraced by travelers. Lorenz S. Marasigan “This year’s holiday season has been another successful period for Philippine sea travel, with more passengers choosing to travel through our ports. We are pleased to see an increase in passenger numbers compared to last year, a sign that maritime transport continues to play a vital role in connecting families and communities across the country,” Santiago said. To manage the holiday rush, the PPA implemented a range of measures, including a “no leave policy” to ensure full staffing at ports, heightened security protocols, and additional personnel deployment at high-traffic locations. Despite the record numbers, Santiago claimed that operations at PPA ports remained orderly and safe. The only notable incidents were the confiscation of prohibited items such as knives and fireworks
