The PGA Tour has announced the relocation of the Genesis Invitational, initially scheduled for Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles from February 13-16, due to the ongoing wildfires. The $20 million tournament, hosted by Tiger Woods, will be moved to a new location to ensure the safety of the community and support relief efforts.
The PGA Tour has made the difficult decision to relocate the Genesis Invitational , originally slated for Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles from February 13-16, due to the devastating wildfires that have ravaged the region. The $20 million tournament, hosted by Tiger Woods , will be moved to an alternative location, prioritizing the safety and well-being of the community.
While the exact venue is yet to be determined, the PGA Tour is considering another golf course within the West Coast Swing schedule, situated away from Los Angeles, to minimize logistical challenges and costs associated with setting up a major tournament. Riviera Country Club, home to the Genesis Invitational for many years, was not directly affected by the fires. However, the tragedy's impact on the surrounding communities, particularly the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, prompted the tour's decision to relocate. The tour has pledged its support to the Los Angeles community by identifying ways to contribute to relief efforts and encourage donations through its website. This marks the first time since 1998 that the Genesis Invitational, formerly known as the Los Angeles Open, will not be held at Riviera Country Club. It had previously been moved to TPC Valencia that year due to Riviera preparing to host the U.S. Senior Open. The club holds a significant place in golf history, having hosted prestigious events like the U.S. Open, the PGA Championship, and is scheduled to host the U.S. Women's Open in 2026 and the golf competition for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Tiger Woods, who has an exemption to play any of the signature events this year, expressed his concern for the affected communities and stated that the focus is on helping those in need. He said, “We’re trying to just figure everything out and make sure that everyone is safe and we have meetings scheduled going forward. But as of right now, we’re not really focused on the tournament. It’s more about what we can do to help everyone who’s struggling, who’s lost homes and had their lives changed.” The relocation highlights the PGA Tour’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of its community during times of crisis.
