PHILIPPINE Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Director General Tereso Panga on Tuesday led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Zen Industrial Pharma Ecozone in Tarlac, which will house the country's first active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing facility.

The soon-to-rise ecozone will support the government's vision of strengthening local pharma production and reduce dependence on imports. Its first phase of development will cost $20 million.
Panga acknowledged the collaboration between the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs and the Food and Drug Administration to streamline regulatory processes and provide strategic incentives for the ecozone. The ecozone will also house the Zen Life Sciences, which will offer an end-to-end solutions for companies looking to expand their operations in the Philippines.
