THE Philippine Economic Zone Authority wants liquefied natural gas as a power source for food processing, plastics and chemical manufacturing, and glass production in its ecozones.
Director General Tereso O. Panga on Monday said the agency sees LNG as a crucial energy source for key industries that require reliable heating and drying solutions, and to further support industrial growth, draw investments, and transition towards a sustainable energy future. This will align with the recently signed Natural Gas Industry Development Act, which promotes domestic gas exploration and utilization, Panga explained.
's previous engagement with the Shell-UK Sustainability Group in 2019 for the exploration of an LNG-powered trigeneration facility at the Cavite Economic Zone. The project was to provide for an embedded power generation, district heating and cooling system for locators.'However, we decided not to push through with the project because LNG was costly at that time to produce and deliver.
