NSW Treasurer Matt Kean wants the premier to appoint a woman to the powerful Expenditure Review Committee.
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet is being urged to appoint upper house MP Natalie Ward to the Expenditure Review Committee to help fulfil the government’s pledge to improve gender diversity across state-owned corporations and boards.
“I’d like to see Natalie Ward appointed ... she’s one of the most talented members of the team and her talent should be promoted.“She’d make a great contribution to ERC and would add to the diversity of the decision-making process, and provide some great balance and input on decisions as we approach the next state election.”
In April, Mr Kean introduced formal gender diversity targets to address the gender balance of government boards. One target stipulates that women can make up no less than 40 per cent of director and board positions at a state-owned corporation or public finance corporation boards. Essential Energy has hit 57 per cent, while Landcom, the Hunter Water Corporation, the Port Authority of NSW, TAHE NSW and NSW Treasury Corporation are all at 40 per cent or above.

‘So many episodes of overtime’: NSW nurses warn of burnout and poor careSky News Reporter Jonathan Lea says nurses in New South Wales are speaking out as issues of short staffing and exhaustion plague the workforce. Mental health nurse Nick Howson spoke to Sky News Australia about the difficulties staff are experiencing at Cumberland Hospital in Sydney. “It’s just ongoing, we’ve got so many episodes of overtime,” Mr Howson said. “For a hospital of roughly 400 staff, we’ve got nearly 500 episodes of overtime in one month alone - that means everyone is doing more than one overtime shift. “And if someone is not doing one– like I personally don’t do them because I have a young family – someone else is picking that up and working for 16 hours a day, sometimes twice a week, just to maintain the bare minimum of staffing that we are supposed to have.”
