Sky News Reporter Jonathan Lea says nurses in New South Wales are speaking out as issues of short staffing and exhaustion plague the workforce.

Mental health nurse Nick Howson spoke to Sky News Australia about the difficulties staff are experiencing at Cumberland Hospital in Sydney.“For a hospital of roughly 400 staff, we’ve got nearly 500 episodes of overtime in one month alone – that means everyone is doing more than one overtime shift.

“And if someone is not doing one– like I personally don’t do them because I have a young family – someone else is picking that up and working for 16 hours a day, sometimes twice a week, just to maintain the bare minimum of staffing that we are supposed to have.”
