NSW Treasurer Matt Kean wants the premier to add the Women’s Safety Minister to the powerful Expenditure Review Committee.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet is being urged to appoint upper house MP Natalie Ward to the Expenditure Review Committee to help fulfil the government’s pledge to improve gender diversity across state-owned corporations and boards.

“I’d like to see Natalie Ward appointed ... she’s one of the most talented members of the team and her talent should be promoted.“She’d make a great contribution to ERC and would add to the diversity of the decision-making process, and provide some great balance and input on decisions as we approach the next state election.”

In April, Mr Kean introduced formal gender diversity targets to address the gender balance of government boards. One target stipulates that women can make up no less than 40 per cent of director and board positions at a state-owned corporation or public finance corporation boards. Essential Energy has hit 57 per cent, while Landcom, the Hunter Water Corporation, the Port Authority of NSW, TAHE NSW and NSW Treasury Corporation are all at 40 per cent or above.
