Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto vowed to support the programs of the Department of Health (DOH) to avoid the spread of dengue in the city.
“To fight against dengue and to stop it from spreading, we in the local government will partner and support the programs of the Department of Health,” Sotto said.Sotto said city personnel were continuously conducting clearing operations around the city to destroy possible breeding grounds of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Francisco Duque commended the City of Pasig for having a lower record of dengue cases. “I would like to congratulate the leadership of Pasig City because the dengue cases are much lower this year than last year by 26 percent,” Duque said.“But the warning stays that you still have six months so anytime the numbers could spike,” Duque warned.Sotto, together with Congressman Roman Romulo, joined Duque in the kick-off of the 2019 School-based Immunization Program of the DOH at Pasig Elementary School on Tuesday afternoon.
Organizers estimated that over 550 elementary students, who were accompanied by their parents, availed the free measles and rubella vaccine, as well as booster doses of tetanus-diptheria. The activity is part of the campaign of the DOH in encouraging parents to have their children vaccinated after the Dengvaxia controversy tainted the trust of the public to the government’s immunization program.
