The Queensland Premier has agreed to make amendments to the Youth Justice Act announcing tougher penalties for those who commit crimes.
The extensive reforms have been orchestrated by the Palaszczuk Government in the wake of the tragic murder of Queensland mother Emma Lovell.while trying to fight off two armed intruders who broke into her home in Brisbane's north on Boxing Day.
The teenager cannot be named for legal reasons. He was charged with attempted murder, sentenced and then released from jail. “These are tough measures, they will be put in place and the community safety is paramount here and today we stand with the community, we stand with the Lovell family,” she said.She conceded the changes would not be popular amongst certain sections of the community, but she pledged to stand by the measures.
