MANILA, Philippines — Malacanang on Thursday steered clear of any involvement in any legal action against Vice President Sara Duterte, insisting it will not intervene with any investigation or proceedings.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin made the remarks in reaction to the grave threats and inciting to sedition charges filed by the National Bureau of Investigation before the Department of Justice against Duterte.'We are aware of that, but we are going to let the process proceed on its own. Because this is about a criminal investigation, the Department of Justice will have the fullest autonomy. We cannot give directions as far as these matters go,' Bersamin said in an interview.
The NBI's complaints stemmed from Duterte's expletive-laden rant last November where she claimed to have contracted someone to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez should anything happen to her.Duterte last week again denied the allegation.
