PAGASA warns of 48-degree heat in Dagupan City this weekend

Forty-four areas nationwide will have to endure danger level heat index on Saturday with temperature in Dagupan City, Pangasinan projected to hit 48 degrees Celsius, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration .

Based on the computed two-day forecast of PAGASA as of 5 P.M. Friday, at least 10 locations will experience a heat index ranging from 44C to 46C, including parts of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Cagayan, Zambales, Cavite, Palawan, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Capiz, and Eastern Samar. Temperature in Metro Manila this weekend, meanwhile, will remain in the low 40s with Pasay City at 43C and Quezon City at 42C, according to the state weather bureau.

The same can be said of other areas in Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Zambales, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Quezon Province, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Camarines Norte, Albay, Masbate, Sorsogon, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Northern Samar, Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Maguindanao, and Agusan del Norte.

With this forecast, PAGASA reiterated its public reminder to limit spending time outdoors during the hottest times of the day and to drink plenty of water, among other pieces of advice to prevent heat-related illnesses.The months of March, April and May are typically the hottest and driest in the archipelago nation, but conditions this year have been exacerbated by the El Niño weather phenomenon. School closures are still enforced in some of the affected areas due to the extreme heat.
