PHILIPPINE Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan said the acquisition of 40 fast patrol crafts worth P25.8 billion was a 'game changer' for the agency.Gavan said the acquisition is 'so far the largest single purchase' under the PCG's modernization program.The acquisition, which was recently approved by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Each of the 40 35-meter long vessels will not only bolster patrol capabilities but also position the Philippines as having 'the youngest fleet in Southeast Asia,' according to Gavan.The first 20 boats will be assembled in France, and the remaining 20 in the Philippines.'This acquisition will effectively quadruple our fleet,' Gavan said.
