THE Philippine Coast Guard said it was set to embark on additional capacity-building programs with the United States Coast Guard to bolster the country's maritime security.The plan was discussed during the visit of Director of International Affairs and Foreign Policy Advisor of the USCG Holly Haverstick at the PCG National Headquarters in Port Area, Manila, on Wednesday.Haverstick was welcomed by Vice Admiral Rolando Lizor Punzalan, deputy commandant for operations of the PCG .
'The region is experiencing a growing number of maritime challenges, from illegal fishing to piracy and environmental threats. Our partnership with the US Coast Guard is essential for improving our operational capabilities and response mechanisms,' Punzalan said.'The partnership between the PCG and the USCG underscores our shared commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
