Reigning champions NU Lady Bulldogs are set to defend their title against De La Salle Lady Spikers in the first game of the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament. The tournament opens on Saturday with a matchup between UE Lady Warriors and UP Fighting Maroons.
Reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) Bella Belen and the NU Lady Bulldogs will begin their title defense against the De La Salle Lady Spikers in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, February 16. The game is set for 3 p.m. Belen, who also won the Rookie of the Year and MVP awards in Season 84, will lead the charge for NU, which seeks its third crown in four seasons.
Angel Canino, who repeated Belen's feat as the league's top rookie and player in Season 85, will take charge for La Salle, which finished third last year and split seasons 84 and 85 titles with NU before the latter regained it last season. The Lady Spikers are determined to bounce back after yielding the crown following a loss to eventual runner-up UST Golden Tigresses in the semifinals. The Ateneo Blue Eagles and the Adamson Lady Falcons, fifth and seventh placers last year, will start the women's double header on Sunday at 1 p.m. Kickstarting the Season 87 women's tourney are the UE Lady Warriors and the UP Fighting Maroons, who clash at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday at 1 p.m. UP and UE finished as eighth and sixth, respectively, last year. Meanwhile, the Golden Tigresses will set their redemption bid in motion against last year's fourth placer FEU Lady Tamaraws in the main event of the opening day at 3 p.m
