National University Nazareth School (NUNS) makes history by winning their first UAAP high school beach volleyball championship. The Lady Bullpups, Vilmarie Toos and Faith Mangyao, defeat UST's Cheng Dadang and Angelica Del Mar to secure the title. The victory comes after months of dedicated training and a valiant effort to prevent UST from a fourth consecutive win.
National University Nazareth School ( NUNS ) secured its first University Athletic Association of the Philippines ( UAAP ) high school beach volleyball championship on Sunday at Sands SM By The Bay. The Lady Bullpups, comprised of Vilmarie Toos and Faith Mangyao, triumphed over University of Santo Tomas ( UST )'s Cheng Dadang and Angelica Del Mar with a score of 18-21, 21-10, 15-8.
Toos was recognized as the Most Valuable Player (MVP), mirroring her and Mangyao's achievement in women's volleyball last November, where they also defeated UST. Toos expressed her team's overwhelming joy, stating, “We’re so happy with this title, we went through a lot of struggle to get this one. We prepared so hard that we skipped going on vacation during the holidays and trained instead.” The NUNS pair, with Laiza Benigay as their reserve, not only prevented UST from claiming a fourth consecutive title but also achieved a clean sweep of the Tiger Sands and the season. Meanwhile, UST secured its first boys' title through JM Lagaran and Lance Malinao, who defeated NUNS's Wayne Dionela and Kian Tan with a score of 21-14, 13-21, 16-14. Lagaran, also named boys' MVP, and Malinao demonstrated resilience in the final, overcoming an 8-12 deficit to thwart the Bullpups' attempt to win back-to-back championships. Adamson University's Ella Gonzalvo and Meagan Pineda secured the girls' bronze medal by defeating Far Eastern University-Diliman's Sheena Cafe and Aleah Devosora, 21-17, 21-12. Far Eastern University-Diliman earned third place in the boys' division after Zedrick Calimlim and Tyler Ramos defeated Adamson University's Brice Malinao and Gian Ygot, 22-20, 19-21, 15-13. Gonzalvo was named Rookie of the Year, replicating her indoor volleyball achievement, while De La Salle-Zobel's Luis Papa was the top rookie in the boys' division
