Senior NSW Labor frontbencher Ryan Park insists the opposition is not opposed to a cashless gaming card after the state’s top union boss made a dramatic intervention into the gambling debate
and backed Premier Dominic Perrottet’s reform plans.that “we need action on cashless gaming cards now”, putting him at odds with Labor just two months from the election.
Labor health spokesman Ryan Park said NSW Labor leader Chris Minns was giving “great consideration” to the best way to deal with the “scourge” of problem gambling.Park said Minns would release a policy on problem gambling ahead of the election. Park denied Labor was “sitting on the fence” when it came to gambling reform even though Minns has so far stopped short of supporting a shift to a cashless system for poker machines.
Park’s comments followed Morey making a dramatic foray into the gambling reform debate, arguing the “time for talk is over” and “pokies reform should be a no-brainer for politicians of all stripes”.Flavio Brancaleone“It is a scourge on our society, particularly for working people who are taxed essentially with poker machines in clubs and in pubs. I’m calling on all leaders,” Morey said. “There needs to be a bipartisan approach to this.
