On February 19, 2025, at 1:20 PM, Naujan , Oriental Mindoro Mayor Joel C. Teves addressed online rumors concerning a stranded vessel in the municipality's waters. The posts alleged that the ship would be utilized for hauling gravel and sand from the province. Mayor Teves vehemently denied these claims, stating on the town's social media account that there was no truth to them.

He explained that his office had coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) regarding the presence of the vessel in Barangay Estrella. This vessel was subsequently identified as LCT Poseidon 12, a cargo ship owned by Conrete Solutions Inc., based in Mandaue City, Cebu.According to the PCG, the vessel encountered engine trouble, causing a temporary halt to its journey. LCT Poseidon 12, with 18 crew members on board, was transporting 10 dump trucks, five backhoes, and one Toyota Grandia van destined for Bataraza, a town in southern Palawan. Mayor Teves emphasized that he had contacted the vessel's owner, who assured him that the ship's intended destination was Palawan, not Oriental Mindoro. Further information about the vessel was obtained from online ship locator Vesselfinder.com, revealing LCT Poseidon 12 to be a deck cargo ship built in 2009, 88 meters in length, and sailing under the Philippine flag.The issue of transporting large quantities of earth materials, particularly armor rocks, gravel, and sand, has been highly debated in Mindoro. Most residents, especially advocacy groups, view this activity as a form of destructive mining.
