Known as the “Sublime Paralytic,” Apolinario Mabini was a nationalist lawyer and intellectual during the Philippine Revolution who served as the primary advisor of President Emilio Aguinaldo and steered the creation of the First Philippine Republic in 1899. His political and nationalist writings helped shape the early years of Philippine independence and the country’s struggle against the United States of America during the Philippine-American War.
Another commemorative program was also held by the NHCP and the City of Manila at the Mabini Shrine in the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Sta. Mesa, Manila where Mabini’s Manila home is currently located. The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
