The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in the Philippines achieved record-breaking passenger and flight numbers in 2024, marking a significant recovery in air travel.

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport ( NAIA ) posted record passenger and flight volumes in 2024, the company that recently took control of the country's main gateway said on Thursday. New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) said the facility handled 50.1 million passengers last year, up 5.08 percent from a pre-pandemic peak in 2019 and 10.43 percent higher than in 2023. The airport also recorded 293,488 flights, an 8.08 percent increase compared to 2019 and 4.83 percent higher than the year before.

'More Filipinos are flying and more visitors are coming to the Philippines,' said NNIC President Ramon Ang.'This growth is a clear sign that confidence in air travel has returned, and it motivates us to work even harder,' he added.'Our goal is to ensure that NAIA provides a better experience for everyone — passengers, airlines, and partners alike.' NNIC said the numbers highlighted the country's recovery as a travel destination and its growing role in tourism and trade in the region. During the peak holiday travel period from Dec. 30 to Jan. 1, the airport was said to have recorded an average on-time performance (OTP) of 83.36 percent, with a high of 88.35 percent recorded on Dec. 31. NNIC said its focus for 2025 would be on further improving infrastructure and streamlining operations to keep up with rising passenger demand. The goal, it added, is to transform the NAIA into a modern, efficient airport that can support the country's goals for tourism and economic growth. The airport operator was set up by a consortium made up of San Miguel Holdings Corp., RMM Asian Logistics Inc., RLW Aviation Development Inc., and Incheon International Airport Corp., which in February last year won a 15-year concession — extendable for 10 years — to rehabilitate, operate and maintain the airport. It took over NAIA in September
