The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in the Philippines has achieved record-breaking passenger and flight numbers in 2024, signaling a strong recovery in the aviation sector.

The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) announced Thursday that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport ( NAIA ) achieved record-breaking passenger and flight volumes in 2024, indicating a strong rebound in air travel within the Philippines . NAIA served 50.1 million passengers last year, marking a 5.08 percent increase from the pre-pandemic peak in 2019 and a 10.43 percent jump from 2023, according to NNIC. The airport also processed 293,488 flights, representing an 8.

08 percent rise compared to 2019 and a 4.83 percent increase from the previous year. Excluding general aviation, these figures demonstrate a sustained growth in travel demand. 'More Filipinos are flying, and more visitors are coming to the Philippines,' stated NNIC president Ramon Ang. NNIC took over airport management in September 2024. 'This growth is a clear indication that confidence in air travel has returned, and it motivates us to work even harder. Our objective is to ensure that NAIA delivers an improved experience for all stakeholders—passengers, airlines, and partners,' said Ang. The figures underscore the country's recovery as a travel destination and its expanding role in tourism and regional trade. Since NNIC assumed operations in September, NAIA has consistently managed increasing passenger numbers while implementing operational enhancements. It reported an average on-time performance (OTP) of 83.36 percent during the peak holiday travel period from December 30 to January 1, with a high of 88.35 percent recorded on December 31, the highest OTP at NAIA since NNIC began managing the airport. NNIC indicated that its focus for 2025 would be on further upgrading infrastructure and streamlining operations to accommodate the rising passenger demand. It aims to transform NAIA into a modern, efficient airport capable of supporting the country's tourism and economic growth aspirations
