Another death was recorded due to a firecracker explosion, bringing the total to two. The Department of Health reported a significant increase in firecracker-related injuries compared to the previous year.

ONE more individual died after sustaining blast injuries from a firecracker known as a triangle, even as more firecracker-related injuries were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Friday, December 3, 2025.Data from the DOH showed that a 44-year-old male succumbed to blast injuries from the triangle he lit. 'There is one new death reported involving a male, who sustained head injuries after lighting up a triangle,' said the DOH.

This brought the number of deaths due to firecrackers to two. As for injuries caused by firecrackers, the health department said there were 704 cases reported from December 22, 2024 to January 3, 2025 (6 a.m.). 'This is 16.9 percent higher than the same period last year, which had 602 total injuries,' said the DOH. Over the last 24 hours, a total of 170 firecracker-related injuries were reported. Kwitis remained the most common cause of injuries among New Year revelers, followed by boga, unknown firecrackers, 5-star, and whistle bomb.Injuries among 19-year-olds and below remained higher with 412, compared to 292 cases of those 20 years old and above.
