The Department of Health (DOH) reported over 300 cases of firecracker-related injuries in the Philippines from December 22, 2024 to January 1, 2025. While the number of new cases this year was 64 percent lower compared to last year, the DOH cautioned that late reports may still emerge. Most victims were young males, with 202 cases (59 percent) attributed to illegal firecrackers. Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported apprehending 21 individuals for indiscriminate firearm discharges during the holiday season.
