In a plot twist that was barely predicted but never expected to happen, the under-the-radar delegate triumphed over the much-vaunted front-runners.
On the early morning of May 23, La Bulakenya Chelsea Anne Manalo was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2024, the first Filipina of African descent to ever win the prestigious title.
This year, Chelsea formed a tight bond with fellow ebony beauties like Matea Mahal Smith, Miss Filipina International 2023 and MUPh Florida, and Alexie, the frontrunner with the most raucous fan base. “I realize some might not understand my reasons, but my heart wants what it wants. What many don’t realize is that joining a pageant tests and stretches you in ways you never imagined, and I knew I would only do it all over again for my lifelong dream – Miss Universe.
“I am thankful to all of you for expending your time, talent, effort, emotions, sleep and resources just to make sure I was always at my best to achieve my goal. “To my mama and my family, thank you for morally supporting me. Ma, I know that we are struggling a lot but you allowed me to pursue this passion and thank you for that.
