Ten years ago life forever changed for the families and friends of five young Shelburne County fishermen, forever known as the crew of the Miss Ally. We remember the crew that went fishing in February 2013, but didn't come home.

“When the wind blows in a certain direction, or it's hailing like it was that night, it comes back to you full force," she says."You relive it all over again.”“Our last conversation I told Katlin, 'You can’t go fishing; it’s giving wind, and he said ‘I’ll be all right. Don’t worry.’ Before he left, I said, 'You be careful. I love you.' He said ‘Don’t worry Aunt Opie, I know I’m okay.’ That’s all I got. The last words he spoke to me.

A memorial bench in memory of Billy Jack Hatfield, located near where he used to live, provides a peaceful space to look out over Barrington Bay at the Drinking Brook Park in Clam Point, Cape Sable Island. KATHY JOHNSONSince the Miss Ally tragedy, it has become a tradition in the Municipality of Barrington, and in particular Woods Harbour, for people to leave their porch lights on to light the way home for the lost crew of fishermen for a few days around Feb. 17.
